The crabapple is a deciduous tree belonging to the Rosaceae family. It has long oval-shaped leaves and flowers with long stalks blooming in spring. The buds are scarlet, and when they bloom, the outside is half red and half white, with a pink inside, delicate and gorgeous.
The Encyclopedia of Flowers states, "The crabapple is most prevalent in Sichuan, followed by Qinzhong. Its tree stands proudly above the other flowers, with an overwhelming superiority."
Its flowers are extremely abundant, its leaves lush, and its branches supple. When viewed, it appears graceful like a virgin, unlike other flowers with irregular beauty. Among flowers, the crabapple is renowned for its beauty. Due to its vivid colors and lack of fragrance, the Tang Dynasty official Jia Dan wrote the "Flower Spectrum" and considered the crabapple as the fairy of flowers.
During the Tang Dynasty, there were crabapple-patterned cups, the Liao Dynasty had crabapple-styled long plates, and the Ming Dynasty had Song Su Shi's painting inspired by his poem "Crabapple". Crabapple flowers are also often combined with other flowers, such as in the combination "Jade Hall, Wealth, Honor, and Longevity."
