This set of original works by Xu Xiaodan captures the unfettered spirit of Su Dongpo's life, with the carefree bloom of crabapple flowers and the soul of the Song Dynasty wine vessel - the zhipot (a type of wine jug) - fused with the elegance of Yixing purple clay ribbed ware. The set embodies the essence of poetry, wine, tea, and utensils, evoking the gentle breeze of the eastern wind.

The work exudes a refined and elegant charm, with graceful lines and an overall ribbed design. Eight petal-shaped ribs radiate from the knob down to the body, creating a layered progression that resembles the unfurling petals of a flower. The individual style of the artist is prominently displayed. Upon closer inspection, the auspicious pattern connecting the neck and body of the kettle complements each other gracefully, while the alternating four concave and convex lines on the lid and body create a sense of symmetry with subtle variations.

Viewing the kettle from the front, the ribbed contours and the swollen surface resemble the full and elliptical shape of crabapple petals, exuding neither gaudiness nor flippancy, but a harmonious blend of rhythm and melody.

"Don't let your dreams sink like flowers into the depths of water; instead, seize the day with poetry and wine." This entire creation strikes a balance between simplicity and ingenuity, complemented by a plate and a cup, tailor-made to match the theme. It epitomizes the gentlemanly image of Su Dongpo, who indulged in poetry, wine, and the fleeting moments of youth. It is as if one can almost see, centuries ago, a broad-minded man enjoying a new wine with a fresh cup of tea, embracing life with poetry and wine.
